The productivity of workers is very important for a company, because this is one of the factors that determines the amount of their revenue. A sick employee, in case he or she shows up at work, will have a decrease in production due to the discomfort caused by the symptoms of flu. The case will be worse if an employee incurs an absence, because he or she does not produce anything. With a large number of sick employees, it is apparent that the healthcare expenses of the company will also increase. Hence, it is very valuable that both the employees and the company learn different ways on how to prevent flu and any other illnesses.

Feed Your Body with Nutritious Foods

The immune system is the body’s defendant against viruses and infections. If you have poor nutrition, your immune system will find it difficult to fight foreign organisms that invade your body, so you get sick more often compared to people who have a healthy diet. Load up on fruits and vegetables as they contain the much-needed vitamins and minerals. Also, eat products that contain whole grains and avoid junk and preservative-rich foods.

With the recent outbreak of swine flu, the oil of oregano has been the talk of the town due to its antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial properties. It is believed that with daily intake of this oil, you will be free of swine flu and any other infection. There are different suggestions as to how to take the oil of oregano, but it is generally advised to have it once a day. Sure, this can be really healthy but to be sure, consult your doctor first.

Children and pregnant women are advised not to take anything without the consent of their physicians. Just like the oil of oregano, the rave about super-green foods, which are wheat-grass, barley grass, spirulina, alfafa, spinach, and chlorella, is due to their ability to prevent infections and fight certain types of diseases such as diabetes. They are also very rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Move Your Muscles

Needless to say, exercise helps keep the body in good health by burning unhealthy fats and keeping good blood circulation. It also keeps your disposition in a good state by triggering the release of ‘feel-good’ hormones such as endorphins. You do not have to engage in strenuous physical activities; by simply doing house chores, you can already burn hundreds of calories. If you are really busy with work, you can exercise by parking your car on the farthest end of the parking lot and walk towards your workplace. You should also use the stairs as often as you can.

Maintain a Good Hygiene

By washing your hands with soap and water, you prevent the transmission of viruses that causes flu, but if frequent trips to the restroom disturb your work, have a sanitizer on hand. Touching your face, eyes, mouth, and nose, will give the virus an easy access into your system, so avoid doing this. As much as possible, disinfect things that are often in contact with your skin, such as your phone, computer, and office supplies. There are numerous people in your office that could have the flu virus, so be careful in using common office equipment like the telephone. When you get home from work, clean up immediately especially if you have children in your household; they are more vulnerable to bacteria and viruses.

Rest and Relax

Have you observed that people who are constantly exposed to stress tend to be sickly? Studies show that stress can weaken the immune system, although this effect is indirect. When under stress, a person usually forgets to eat and finds it hard to sleep, factors that affect the body’s line of defense.

When at home, try not to think about work-related issues. Instead, use your time to pamper yourself and bond with your loved ones.
